On Thursday, Apple updated its Pages, Numbers, and Keynote apps for both OS X 10.11 and iOS 9, bringing support for new features in both operating systems such as Split View and Slide Over. In addition, the updates support Apple's latest devices and their features, such as the 3D Touch of the new iPhones, as well as throw in improved backward compatibility with versions of the iWork apps going back as far as 2006. The new versions also take advantage of Apple's 'Taptic' feedback engine on devices include it, such as the Retina MacBook and the latest iPhones. A full range of new features are supported from the pressure sensitivity of 3D Touch to Picture in Picture on the latest iPads. The iOS versions are all now a version 2.6 for iOS 9, while the OS X versions are now at v5.6. The iOS versions now require iOS 8.4 or later, while the Mac versions require OS X 10.10.4 or later.

A significant number of smaller improvements have been made to all the updated versions, including better Microsoft Office compatibility, and more backward compatibility to the previous versions of the iWork apps for Mac, reaching back now to iWork '06 documents as well as iWork '08. In addition the web version of the iWork apps have been taken out of beta, making them a full part of iCloud. For months, users have been able to access the beta versions by signing in to iCloud, given them access to iWork documents on any Internet-connected device. Accessibility features have been improved across the board, with new VoiceOver commands for navigation and editing control, and shared documents can now be viewed in Windows and Android browsers.
